Dr. Peter Gutwa Oino

Dr. Peter Gutwa Oino, PhD, is a Sociologist and Anthropologist, serving as Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Kisii University, Kenya, and Research Fellow at the Tshepo Institute for the Study of Contemporary Africa, Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada. He holds a PhD in Applied Anthropology (Moi University) and an MA in Sociology (Community Development & Project Management) from Egerton University. With over 10 years of experience in transdisciplinary and participatory action research, Dr. Oino has secured multiple research grants in areas like climate change, livelihoods, and gendered vulnerabilities. Dr. Oino leads Work Package 3 (WP 3) in Kenya of the “Climate Adaptation and Resilience Strategies (CLARS)” project, focusing on gender inequalities and climate-induced socioeconomic vulnerabilities, particularly among marginalized groups in urban migrant communities. He utilizes Cultural Animation (CA) methodology and participatory digital arts in WP 3 activities in Eldoret. Dr. Oino is also a Co-Investigator on a USDA-funded project titled “Enhancing African Women Farmers’ Capacity to Participate in School Meals Value Chains” and a MicroResearch Canada-funded project on “Engaging Community Paralegals in Referral Pathways for Sexual Gender-Based Violence among Girls in Kisii County.” He is also a project team member in the “Ethics and Legitimacies in Modification of Moving Material Cultures in North Rift, Kenya” project.
